10 Romantic Getaways You’ll Want to Book Again

Updated:

Do you find yourself looking out your office window and daydreaming about a romantic getaway? We totally get that—we do it too.

But why do we always wait and save it for a special occasion? The great thing about being an adult is that you can decide to take a vacay just because.

We are giving you full permission to take a break and take off on a trip just for two. With just a few clicks and a little planning (ok, it might not be that easy), you could be lounging on a sunny beach in the Caribbean, breathing in the crisp mountain air in the Northeast or the West, or wandering through the storied streets of European capitals.

All you have to do is think about what you both really want from this getaway. Maybe it’s spending a lazy weekend in bed, exploring a new city with its museums and hidden dining gems, or finding a peaceful spot where you can lose yourself in that book you haven’t had time to read while burying your feet in the sand with the sun on your face.

We’ve put together a list of some amazing places across the globe, ranging from budget-friendly escapes to fancy resorts perfect for marking those special milestones, like proposals, anniversaries, vow renewals—or just because.

So, whether you’re packing a teeny bikini or a down-filled puffer jacket, keep reading to find a romantic getaway that will be a dream destination for you and your better half.

paris

Paris

The City of Love simply must be included in every single romantic travel guide, shouldn’t it? Of course, it should! We aren’t going to attempt to sway you on Paris because, well, it is Paris.

Here’s a little overview: It’s one of the most beautiful cities on Earth. From iconic art at the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay, as well as the serene beauty of the Seine River, and the meandering alleyways of Le Marais it is impossible to turn a corner without falling head over heels with this city.

If it is a special occasion, the Hôtel de Crillon is outrageously romantic, perfect for a special anniversary celebration or an intimate luxury getaway. With its prime location in the historic and iconic Place de La Concorde, this property is rightfully considered one of Paris’s grandes dames.

With its spacious suites—some of which were created by Karl Lagerfeld— to Sense, a Rosewood Spa that offers bespoke treatments, and La Cave’s intimate private dinners, this resort is a romantic paradise.

At Nonos et Comestibles par Paul Pairet, one of France’s most celebrated chefs has opened a restaurant that you should not miss. If you’re looking for a Left Bank hotel with a rooftop bar and endless views, try the brand new Hôtel Dame des Arts.

Are you marking a special anniversary? Think about dining at the Cheval Blanc Paris; it offers breathtaking views of the Seine and is, simply put, magnifique, as the French say.

aruba

Aruba

Thanks to its relatively low prices and world-famous beaches, Aruba—also called One Happy Island—is among our top-rated Caribbean vacation locations.

Among the various romantic hotels on the island is the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino, a favorite location for engagement parties if that’s what you are planning. A sunset concierge is on staff at the hotel and can help guests find the ideal location to propose.

Where does that leave you if you’ve already tied the knot? A 30-minute sunset photo shoot and a couples massage are all part of the vow-renewal package that the hotel can arrange for you in Aruba, which is an iconic location for the ceremony.

A lively piano bar is located downtown, perfect for those whose idea of a romantic evening involves belting out a few songs. Another great option is to spend the day at the private flamingo island at the Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort, which is perfect for some snapshots to bring back to the real world.

waikiki

Waikiki, Oahu

Waikiki is one of the most fun destinations on Oahu–stunning resorts, a wealth of world-class shopping, and serene beaches define the Honolulu south shore district.

Until the absolutely adorable Wayfinder opened its doors not long ago, it was next to impossible to find an affordable, stylish, and romantic hotel in Waikiki. This small mid-century hotel boasts rooms with surprisingly low prices, poolside suites, and bright, eccentric furnishings–and, it’s conveniently located in the heart of town.

Spend a moonlit evening in the privacy of your room’s veranda, or make use of the hotel’s proximity to the beach for a peaceful walk. You’ll also find Lost & Found, a poolside speakeasy serving delicious cocktails with a tropical vibe!

Nashville

Nashville

Nashville is one of our favorite places to have an unforgettable time, whether it’s your first romantic getaway together or you’re celebrating a silver wedding anniversary.

Our favorite old-school Robert’s Western World is the honky-tonk, but there are plenty of other great places to get down in the Music City.

Noko has Wagyu brisket and wood-fired edamame, and Oak Steakhouse has slab bacon. Bastion is our fav off-main-road cocktail spot, and there is a thriving arts scene.

If you’re looking for a place to stay that offers a little bit of everything, go no further than The Bobby. From the rooftop, you can enjoy the hotel’s concert series, which features local artists, as well as the pool along with one of the most Instagrammable bars—its 1956-refitted Greyhound bus.

A gallery, a seductive Garage Bar with neon graffiti walls, and some of the most cozy mattresses in Tennessee are all features of this chic boutique hotel that recently turned five years old.

If hordes of hen parties aren’t your thing, you’ll feel as though you’re in a sanctuary away from the fray, despite its great location, feet from Printer’s Alley and just a few blocks from Broadway.

Even if you spent a lot of your weekend chatting with the ladies in veils, there’s plenty to sate your whiskey cravings at Union Tavern’s menu. It’s the kind of eclectic spot that can break any couple’s routine and make them feel like rock stars.

The Bahamas

The Bahamas

The Bahamas is probably the first Caribbean island that comes to mind when you imagine a romantic getaway. The 16 main islands and their pristine ocean water make it the perfect place for a romantic getaway that fuses relaxation with adrenalin activities.

While the islands do have a variety of hotels, The Ocean Club is where you should go to impress your significant other–famous for its long, white sand beach; this resort offers couples spacious accommodations like the Villa Residences or bungalows with private infinity pools.

Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic

If you’ve never been to Cap Cana, a paradise on the eastern point of the Dominican Republic, you might think the country is more famous for spring breakers than for romantic weekend getaways. Miles of powdery white sand beaches, a top-notch marina for fishing, and some of the most glitzy and romantic hotels in the nation are all here.

Eden Roc Cap Cana is our number one pick because it is the sole Relais & Châteaux property in the Dominican Republic and for its enormous 30,000 acres of genuine seclusion. In addition to luxurious villas right on the beach, guests can also make use of the resort’s latest spa and wellness program, which offers a wide range of in-room treatments, like couples massages and personalized bath soaks.

On top of that, the boutique hotel has a limestone cavern with a cascading fountain called a cenote, where guests can arrange for special romantic dinners for those seeking a memorable evening.

Perhaps you’re looking for a less expensive option. Don’t worry; we got you! If so, Punta Cana is home to a plethora of beautiful (and “affordable”) all-inclusive resorts, such as The Majestic Elegance, that offer gorgeous beach and ocean views.

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico

Flying to Puerto Rico from the East Coast takes a shorter amount of time than many road trips, so it’s an excellent winter (and summer) long weekend vacation. San Juan, the capital, is a preferred spot of ours for couples for its numerous quaint, small eateries and stunning old architecture.

The Condado Vanderbilt, nestled in the ultra-chic Condado neighborhood, is an affordable hotel that is nonetheless plenty fancy for a romantic weekend. Among the many features of this historic Spanish Revival resort are two oceanfront restaurants, the sole hammam in Puerto Rico, poolside and beach butlers, and even more.

Palmetto Bluff

Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina

Palmetto Bluff, a remote refuge of 20,000 acres in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, is one of the few places we’ve been that exudes an aura of tranquility.

You will not be bored, however, thanks to a bounty of beautiful walking pathways, an outstanding golf course, and numerous dining options serving cuisine with a Southern twist.

Montage Palmetto Bluff, one of the most posh resorts in the state, is located nearby as well! Located just a short drive from Hilton Head or Savannah, two other fantastic couples getaways, this resort is perfect for a romantic weekend away.

And get this–a couple’s menu is even offered at the on-site Spa Montage. Lovers Jubilee, a temptingly named treatment that combines massage and exfoliation, is just one among many options.

While we totally get why you are hesitant to get out of your incredibly comfortable bed, we really think you should venture out and sample the hotel’s delicious spin on Lowcountry cuisine at River House.

Asheville

Asheville, North Carolina

The city’s lush setting in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina makes it ideal for nature lovers and adventurers of all stripes, from hikers to those who like to…après-hike.

Besides being home to a thriving arts community, the region offers an abundance of picturesque trails and breweries.

Because Asheville is so pedestrian-friendly, you can book the classic Omni Park Grove Inn, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains or stay in the heart of the city, where you’ll stumble upon all the pubs and restaurants.

If microbrews are your thing, you’ll be delighted to know that there are over 40 excellent breweries in the area serving up excellent craft beer. Plus, there are plenty of places where you can listen to live music and devour those enormous pretzels that go perfectly with those IPAs.

Greece

Ios, Greece

While this spot probably isn’t ideal for a weekend getaway from the United States to Greece, we’d be irresponsible if we left out an estate that was actually built on love from our romantic getaway list.

The beautiful, uninhabited beaches and ancient ruins on the Greek island of Ios make it a perfect choice for anyone looking for a more leisurely vacation.

Although there is an energetic nightlife (because nothing screams romance like dancing the night away on the beach with your babe), there are plenty of spots for relaxation.

Located in a mostly uninhabited region that was formerly a paradise for hippies in the 1970s, the eco-luxury resort Calilo prioritizes seclusion and sustainability.

Among the thirty suites, you’ll find nice touches, including swim-up bars, luxurious daybeds, and heart-shaped plunge pools (remember, we said it was romantic). The proprietors, a married pair who have run Calio since 2019, have put their hearts and souls into every part of the resort.

Takeaways

All of these romantic getaways are sure to hit the spot–whether you just need a break from the real world, are celebrating a special occasion, are looking to spice up your relationship, or want to pop the question in an unforgettable place.

And remember what we said–you don’t have to wait for a milestone to treat yourselves to a trip! You can do it just because.
