An archer steps out on a beach, lifts his bow, aims for his target, and releases the string. The arrow sails across the sand, weaving left, right, curving up, and then slamming down right on its target! Except… The arrow bounces backwards and falls limply into the sand. Why? Because the target it struck was a giant crab, its hard shell is a protective guard keeping this little crab safe.
Okay, so this is a totally unbelievable scenario that would probably only happen in a video game where one is fleeing an aggressive giant crab before advancing to the next level. So why am I describing this here? Well, if you’ve read any of my blog posts you probably know I’m a fan of metaphors and they always link back to the signs we are currently discussing. And that’s where you two come in, Cancer and Sagittarius.
Cancer, your symbol is the crab, and Sagittarius–you guessed it–you are the archer. So does that mean you’re automatically not a match? Not exactly. Because it’s very likely this crab could crawl out of his shell and thank the archer for trying out his new barrier. Or maybe he will give the Archer the finger and scuttle into the sea. Or perhaps, with claws outstretched his lunge for the jugular. So which one is it? Let’s find out!
Cancer
Like your symbol, the crab, you’re a homebody, Cancer, but that doesn’t mean you never leave the house.
You’re a cardinal sign, which means you enjoy taking the initiative on things, and you’re more than happy to experience new things.
You just need to learn your limits, which means understanding when you can become overwhelmed and overstimulated by external circumstances.
That’s when it’s time to crawl back into your shell, and there’s nothing wrong with it.
As a natural caregiver, you love nurturing your relationships with others, but you can only give as much as you have, and if your cup is drained, there will be no water left to water the crops.
Speaking of water, that’s your element, Cancer, which connects not just to your symbol but to your planet, the moon, in control of the tides, your ever-changing moods, and your go-with-the-flow mentality that makes you easy-going and sensitive to your needs and the desires of your friends and loved ones.
You belong to the fourth house, which represents domestic life, which is appropriate since you crave stability, especially in the safe space of your home.
This extends to your friends and partners because when you invite someone into your space, you want to know they’re not going to disrupt the peace you’ve created but instead add positivity to it, like you intend to give to others.
Sagittarius
The free-spirit adventurer of the zodiac, you Sagittarius, are always out seeking the next place to explore. Wanderlust is your middle name, and if you haven’t yet traveled the world, it’s on your list.
You’re a fire sign, passionate and loud when it comes to expressing something you care about, yet as a mutable sign, you’re adaptable, more than happy to compromise and go with the flow, yet you’ll never just float quietly in the background.
Your presence will always be known. You’re ruled by Jupiter, the planet of fortune and luck.
This doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve won the lot and are retired as a millionaire, at twenty-five, but you probably have one or two stories of luck, anywhere from finding money on the street to living out the movie Final Destination with close calls with death.
You belong to the ninth house of the Zodiac, the house of philosophy, spirituality, and wisdom. That’s where you get your imaginative, dreamy, and lofty side.
Because you think big, you tend to go overboard–whether that’s in maxing out your credit card or expressing your opinions–in both cases, you won’t hesitate to be direct and honest about your feelings and actions.
That’s the fire in you, the burning spirit that cuts through the BS and won’t stop you from putting people in their place. When you’re annoyed with someone, they know.
Your motto in all things: go big or go home.
And considering you don’t see the sky as your limit–but instead the stars–anyone who knows you will expect your personality to be as big as your heart.
Even if you’re not fond of feeling restricted in any of your friendships or relationships, at the end of the day, you relish genuine connection.
Cancer and Sagittarius in Friendship
So, how does this pan out when the archer’s arrow slams into the crab’s shell?
Well, for starters, sensitive Cancer is going to be a little bothered by the intrusion of their personal space.
Sagittarius, because you’re assertive, you won’t back down, and although you have a tendency to thrust yourself into other people’s personal spaces, you do it with the best intention. You enjoy learning about who people are, even if that can appear a little abrasive to some Zodiac signs, like sensitive Cancer.
However, once the bandage is ripped off and you two interact, you both will discover that differences aren’t always a bad thing.
Friend Date: Mani/Pedi or Streaking on the Beach at Midnight?
As a cardinal sign, Cancer, you take initiative on things that are important to you, but more than that, you crave control and consistency in your personal life, and this includes the time you spend with your friends.
While you don’t mind experiencing new things, you want to at least have an idea of what you’re getting into. Sag, you’re the opposite, eager to travel and sprinting from anything that even looks like the four-walled square of a routine.
As a mutable sign, you crave spontaneity and change and never like to do the same thing twice. Because of this, you’re great at meeting new people, but if there’s one thing your friends know about you, it’s that every time you hang out will be different.
Cancer, this will startle you at first. Most of your friends are like you, predictable, and here’s Sagittarius, not only grabbing you by the hand and dragging you outside, but surprising you with random adventures. It will intrigue you, mainly because you enjoy the world outside, but sometimes you need a helping hand to explore it.
For you, Sagittarius, Cancer offers the stability that you typically run from. Game night on Friday–again?
And yet, there’s something about Cancer’s loyal nature that makes even the mundane moments interesting. Doesn’t mean you’ll last until midnight, but you’ll at least come for a card game or three, and you’ll surprise yourself by having a good time.
Friend-Fection: Keep It on the Dl or Text ‘Love Ya Biatch?’
You two are similar in that you feel your emotions strongly. Cancer, you’re very connected to the way you feel, while you, Sagittarius are a ball of fire, typically experiencing your emotions on the high or low end of the spectrum, often not anywhere in between.
While you run from conflict, Cancer, you know that eventually, you’ll need to express your thoughts and emotions to your friends. You prefer to choose the calmest point to do this to ensure success in the conversation.
And this is where you two blend well together. Because Sagittarius, although your emotions are large and loud, you know yourself well enough to understand that you need time to process what you’re feeling.
For this reason, when you’re disagreeing with your friend, you’ll remove yourself from the situation to allow yourself time to process and think through what you’re feeling.
And when you’re calm, you’ll come back to talk. Cancer, you’re fine waiting and prefer this way if it means your conversation will be less heated.
Dating Advice: Send His Name or Send His Social?
Sagittarius, if you’re dating–and that depends wholly on your mood, the time of year, what you ate for breakfast, and probably forty-two other ever-changing factors–then you’re doing it for pure entertainment.
You hate feeling smothered and will flee from anyone who threatens your freedom. And because you’re a mutable sign, your opinions on dating are ever-changing.
You know you enjoy connecting with people and communicating with strangers is effortless. Although you’re optimistic about most things in life, you’re not foolish when it comes to love.
You’re particular about who you spend a large amount of your time with, but in terms of telling your friends about your dates, you’ll have zero problems telling them everything!
Cancer, you’re on the opposite end of the spectrum in about all things with dating.
Not only are you private about your love life, but you’re more traditional, and if you’re going to date, it’s going to be with a purpose: to find a partner who you can create a stable home life with.
Also, unlike Sagittarius, you have a tendency to fall hard for new partners. Sometimes it feels like your heart has a brain of its own, and you’re just connected to it.
You fall hard and fast, and whether or not you like it, your friends will notice this and try to talk to you about it. Well, some of them will respect your desire for privacy–but not Sagittarius. Not only do they want all the nitty-gritty details, but if it doesn’t work out with this new partner, Sagittarius will come straight out and say it to you Cancer.
Maybe it didn’t pan out because you knew them for two weeks, and were acting like you knew them for two years. If anyone else said this to you, Cancer, you’d probably get your feelings hurt. But there’s something about Sag’s honesty you appreciate. And after all, they’re right. And Sagittarius’ bluntness gives you, Cancer, the ability to say what you’ve been wanting to say to them: It’s okay to fall in love, even if you get hurt.
Overall, your friendship will work because Sagittarius, you’ll teach Cancer the importance of knowing when to reign in your emotions, while you Cancer, will encourage Sagittarius to connect with their feelings and show them that vulnerability isn’t always a bad thing.
Cancer and Sagittarius in Love
Your friendship took work to get where it is… Why ruin it? Let’s pretend for an instant that you’re on a blind date, strangers who met at a gas station, a bakery, or a dog park. In other words, you haven’t opened the apps and learned everything about your potential partner.
Friends, this is why dating apps exist! They help you weed out the ones who won’t work with you. But alas, you two met super randomly, like no one in this new age ever does anymore.
There’s an attraction. One of you–probably Sagittarius asked for your number, and Cancer, for whatever reason, you said. So here you are.
How’s this going to go?
The arrow shoots through the air—but this time, the crab darts forward, lunging for the Archer. Eek. Do I need to say more? Okay, let’s do it.
The First Date: Roses or KFC?
Cancer, if Sagittarius isn’t late, they’re probably at the bar talking to someone else. Not because they don’t want to hang out with you, Cancer, but because that’s just who they are: amicable, random, and a free spirit.
You’ll like this at first, Cancer. Sagittarius encourages you to break up your routine, and it will hold your interest.
Sagittarius, at first, you’ll think Cancer is too emotional. Did they really just tear up at that animal rescue commercial?! But you’ll stay for the date because you’ll see it as an experiment.
This person is different from you, and you want to figure out what that means. It’s likely you may try to take this back home, Sagittarius, and Cancer, ever protective of their space, is unlikely to give it up on the first night, not because they don’t find you attractive, but because their home is their safe space.
If you’re really hungry, Cancer, you’ll suggest you two take it back to their place.
Love Language Do’s and Don’ts: A Dealbreaker?
Let’s pretend you’ve gotten to where you’re in an actual functioning relationship.
Did I say functioning? Yeah, that word is subjective. I meant you’re in a relationship, whether it’s working, well, the jury’s still out on that.
Cancer, if you’ve brought Sagittarius into your space, then you’re taking a leap of faith that you’re probably going to forget. While you’re craving quiet nights in, Sagittarius is eager to go out.
You don’t mind this Cancer, but you’re starting to notice they don’t make compromises like you do, and when you try to express this to them? Good luck.
Sagittarius, this is where it becomes hard to breathe. Not only are you just being yourself, and that’s upsetting Cancer, but they also want to talk about it?!
Do you have to? You’d rather show your affection through quality time–adventures and fun; not this.
You’re blunt and direct, and that just upsets Cancer even more.
You’re ready to go out on the town, Sagittarius and Cancer; this bothers you.
It’s not that you’re a first, Sagittarius, and it’s not that you’re possessive Cancer, but when you two come together, it’s sure going to seem like that.
Sexy Time: Slow and Steady or Chompin’ at the Bit?
Sagittarius, intimacy for you is a natural extension of dating: exciting, fun, and different every single time. You want to experiment in the bedroom, and because you’re a fire sign, you’re full of passion and raring to go.
Cancer, as a cardinal sign, you’re eager to take the initiative, and because you’re sensual, sex is an opportunity for you to express your love for your partner. This is where your differences will bring out the best in each other.
Sagittarius will appreciate Cancer’s emotional connection, and Cancer will enjoy Sagittarius’ adventurous side.
You’d probably be better in a friend’s with benefits situation than a relationship, but even that will end because you two just have different values and desires.
The Verdict?
As friends, you’ll bring each other out of your comfort zone and enjoy spending time with someone who sees life differently than you.
As lovers? Sagittarius, you could work on thinking before you speak, and Cancer, you can understand that, despite their blunt way of going about it, at least Sagittarius is being honest.
Despite that, it probably won’t be enough to make it work.

What if I Love This Person?
Let’s get that time machine out because you’re better off staying friends or staying strangers. At the end of the day one of you is going to get hurt. And the longer you stay together, the lower that love compatibility number is going to go.
